• Axle - Driveshaft going between differential and wheel hub. Also known as half-shaft, usually known as CV shaft.

• Backyard Boys - A group of Subaru enthusiasts living in the north-side of Brisbane, Australia. (and some over on the west coast too :P)

• Ball Joint - at the front outer end of the lower control arm is a joint that allows the steering to move through its range of movement. It is a ball shaped piece of steel in a socket and lubricated with grease. This is a wear item and needs to be replaced when worn.
• Bell Joint - the front outer CV joint is a Bell Joint.

• CV Joint - Constant Velocity Joint, this enables a shaft to operate through an angle whilst being driven.
D
• DOJ - Double Offset Joint: up to 87, the rear axle has a DOJ at each end, after 88, only on the inner; the front has a DOJ on the inner (gearbox) end.
• DOHC - Double OverHead Cam: found on Liberty/Legacy and later models

• EA63 - 1.4 Litre 4 cylinder engine with overhead valves driven by pushrods.
• EA71 - 1.6 Litre 4 cylinder engine with overhead valves driven by pushrods.

• Fercificate - like a certificate, but more intoxicated ;)
• Forrester: 96 - current EJ engines. Small "SUV" type vehicle
• FWD : Front Wheel Drive, when only the front wheels are driven, or the car has no four wheel drive option.
• 4WD : Four Wheel Drive. Generally describes vehicles with constant drive to front wheels & selective drive to rear wheels
• Full-Time 4wd : Drive to all wheels at all times

• Impreza : 93 - current EJ engines. The car that ultimately replaced the L series.

• Liberty/Legacy : 1989 - current EJ, EZ engines
• Liftkit : A kit consisiting of blocks that when installed lifts a subaru further off the ground by spacing the body from the suspension
• L Series - 1972 - 1980 EA63/EA71 engine, not typically used as these cars are quite rare.
• L Series - 1984 - 1994, EA82 engine.
M
• MY - Early Subaru models, EA81 engine.
• Mud - Thing that dirties err pretties up your car and gets into places you don't want it to

O
• OHV : Overhead Valve. As in EA81, uses pushrods and one cam
• OHC : Overhead Cam. As in EA82/EJ, uses one or two cams for each bank of cylinders.
• Outback: a Liberty with different suspension & other mods to increase the ground clearance

Q
• Quadrozontal - Some goon at FHI described the Subie engine as Quadrozontal, I think he had watched too much Astroboy.
• Quad Cam - 2 cams per bank for a total of four cams. Turbo EJ's have four cams, as do EG33, EZ30 and some naturally aspirated EJ's
R
• Rust: A thing that puts holes in your car's bodywork
S
• SOHC - Single Overhead Cam: same as OHC but used when refering to EJ motors to distinguish from the Quad Cam motor
• Strut - the front shock type thing
• Swamped: having your car end up in water up to the door handles (see tides)
T
• Trigged : A backyard boys term used to decribe something that no longer works. Example: "The grinder is trigged", or " I trigged the grinder". (possibly also "fooked")
• Tides: An important thing to check before a drive on the beach (see swamped)
U
• U-turn - What to do when your spouse / GPS / navigator / map gives you the wrong directions
